Distribution
Endem. It grows on the sands, river banks. 17. Muyoung-kum. (floodplain of the Chu river), 18. Balkh.- Alak. (the valley of the Ili River).
Morphology description: Shrub up to 1.5 m tall, with semi-branching branches, last year’s branches are greenish-pale brown, light brown over time, covered with rare, paired, almost identical crescent-shaped curved spikes, with a low-running expanded base, up to 7-8 mm wide; stipules with short, narrow-lanceolate ears, glabrous, sometimes finely glandular along the edge, non-spreading to the top of the stems; leaves up to 6-7 cm long, petioles thin, short fluffy, studded with spikes up to 2 mm long.; leaflets 2-3-paired, 25 mm long, 10 mm wide, reduced at the base of the leaf, narrowly elliptical, simply toothed, usually whole-edged, glabrous at the base, on barely fluffy petioles; flowers are white, solitary or at the ends of twigs in shields; pedicels are always glabrous, up to 1.5-2 cm long; bracts are either broadly lanceolate, up to 10-12 mm long, or strongly reduced, narrowly lanceolate, fluffy, 2-4 mm long (with single flowers); sepals are short fluffy, pointed at the tip, 5-7 mm long, falling off with the disc when the fruit matures; the stigmas are woolly-hairy, collected in a loose head, barely rising above the disc; the fruit is glabrous and smooth, with very thin walls, always spherical, 5-7 mm in diameter, black when ripe. General distribution: Endemic.
Meaning: A highly valuable ornamental plant. Excellent vitamin supplement.
