Structure: A tree or shrub with a spherical or wide pyramidal crown.

Usage: Solitary and group plantings.
Shrub or small tree: Belongs to the Rosaceae family.
Size and Growth Form: A tree up to 4-5 m tall with a low-hanging wide tent-like crown, sometimes growing in a bushy form. The bark of the trunk and old branches is dark brown or brownish-gray; branches are dark purple-brown or cherry-colored, glossy; shoots are bare. Thorns are absent or few, strong, glossy, 1-2 cm long. Leaves are oval or elliptic-oval, on long shoots up to broad-rhombic, with a sharp tip and a wedge-shaped entire base, or in the lower part of the blade lobed, with sharply upward-pointing, unevenly large-toothed lobes that are sometimes elongated into points, on shortened shoots 4-6 cm long and 3-4 cm wide, on long shoots up to 8 cm long and 6.5 cm wide; young leaves are sparsely pubescent, later usually bare, dark green above, somewhat paler below, change color little in autumn, and fall late. Stipules are large, especially on long shoots, broad crescent-shaped, serrate, long-lasting on the shoots. Inflorescences are loose, complex, many-flowered, glabrous, 5-7 cm (up to 9 cm) in diameter. Flowers are 1.3-1.8 cm in diameter, with white petals. Fruits are nearly spherical, up to 13 mm in diameter, purple-black, glossy, slightly speckled, with juicy pulp.
Habitat: Western Europe, USA, southern areas of Western Russia.
Reproduction: Vegetative propagation: 10% of cuttings root when treated with Rooting Hormone.
Care:
Watering: watering may only be needed during severe drought, twice a month.
Fertilizers: in spring, granulated slow-release fertilizers are applied; before flowering – a bucket of liquid manure.
